Infrared Sauna
We take our recovery just as serious as our training, which is why we’re one of the only Brisbane gyms with an Infrared Sauna in-house. Infrared Saunas are one of the best modern-day recovery and health enhancing tools for athletes and people from all walks of life.
What is an Infrared Sauna?
Compared to a regular sauna, infrared saunas don’t heat the air around you. An infrared sauna heats your body by penetrating deep into your muscles and joints, creating a sweat that releases toxins from your body. The temperature is usually lower than a regular sauna and takes less time to heat up. They also have less humidity which creates a cleaner environment.
What are the benefits?
Through heat and light, it detoxifies, relieves pain, increases oxygen and blood circulation.
Recover faster
The infrared heat stimulates vasodilation of peripheral blood vessels, which brings oxygen to joints. This can increase the healing process of sprains and strains, relieving pain, and reducing the overall time it takes to recover from an injury or intense workout.
Release toxins
Leading studies have shown that the sweat caused by conventional saunas comprised between 95-97% water. Where the sweat exuded in an infrared sauna was 80-85% water and the other 15-20% was cholesterol, toxic heavy metals (mercury, aluminium, sodium, ammonia, sulphuric and uric acid). These toxins and heavy metals aren’t in sweat from general exercise. A session in our Brisbane infrared sauna detoxifies your body by cleansing itself of an accumulation of potentially carcinogenic heavy metals. Burn calories
The body temperature that the infrared sauna creates can help to raise your metabolism. How? The heat causes your heart to beat faster, which results in burning more calories—up to 600 calories per sauna
How to use
Drink plenty of water
Make sure you’re hydrated before going in. Try and drink 1L of water before your session, and another 1L during or soon after.
Keep an eye on the time
We recommend sauna sessions should last around 20-30 minutes. Keep an eye on the timer, you don’t want to stay in there too long and risk dehydration.
What to wear
You can wear your gym clothes or swim gear if you are doing hot and cold therapy. Just make sure to always sit on a towel.
How often should you use an infrared sauna?
We recommend a 20-30 minute sauna session, at least once a week to de-stress, rehabilitate or to encourage weight loss. There is a brand new infrared sauna in the Restoration Zone, located next to the Ice Bath, perfect for hot and cold therapy treatment.
