Hyrox; a gruelling test of strength and endurance, is coming to Brisbane on the 1st and 2nd of March. This unique event combines 8km of running with 8 functional fitness challenges, pushing athletes to their limits.

At Function Well, we believe a strategic combination of our Hybrid and RunFIT classes can provide a powerful foundation for your Hyrox journey.

What is Hyrox?

HYROX is a Global competitive indoor fitness competition that combines 8 kilometres of running with eight different functional workout stations. It is billed as “The World Series of Fitness Racing”. The race format consists of a 1-kilometre run followed by one functional exercise station, repeated eight times. The functional exercises are always the same at every HYROX event. The exercises include:

○ 1km SkiErg
○ 50m sled push
○ 50m sled pull
○ 80m burpee broad jump
○ 1km row
○ 200m kettlebell farmer carry
○ 100m sandbag walking lunges
○ 100 wall balls

Our Hybrid classes combine strength training and conditioning for a well-rounded workout, while RunFIT is specifically designed for runners, combining running-specific drills and exercises with strength training to improve running performance. The combination of these classes provide our members with:

Strength & Conditioning: Hybrid builds a strong base of strength and conditioning through a mix of weightlifting, plyometrics, and metabolic conditioning. This translates directly to the demanding functional fitness challenges in Hyrox.

Running Powerhouse: RunFIT focuses on running-specific drills, strength training, and endurance work, enhancing your running economy and preparing you for the 8km run.

Functional Movement Mastery: Both classes incorporate functional movements that are directly relevant to Hyrox, such as burpees, core work, and exercises that mimic the demands of the competition.

Community & Motivation: Training within the supportive Function Well community provides invaluable motivation and accountability, crucial for consistent training leading up to the event.

Tips for Hyrox Success:

Supplement with Hyrox-Specific Training: Incorporate Hyrox-specific sessions into your routine, simulating the race format with intervals of running and functional exercises.

Practice Hyrox Movements: Dedicate time to practicing key Hyrox movements like burpees, sandbag carries, and sled pushes at higher intensity and volume.

Prioritise Recovery: Adequate rest and recovery are paramount. Incorporate rest days, prioritise quality sleep, and consider using hydrotherapy recovery methods such as cold plunge, saunas, magnesium pools and massage. Function Well has all of these facilities on site for our members.
