HIIT at Function Well

| Movement

There is good reason HIIT classes are some of our most popular sessions. If you lead a busy lifestyle and don’t have much free time for exercise, or are simply looking to improve your metabolic health, high intensity interval training, or HIIT as it’s commonly termed, may be a workout style for you!

Not only are HIIT workouts a fast and effective way to improve your fitness, regular HIIT training provides numerous health benefits including improved cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, blood sugar regulation, strengthened immune system, and many more.

HIIT is usually high intensity exercise at short bursts of 20-30 seconds paired with ample rest period between each interval. While ”HIIT” in its simplest form has its merits, we have expanded the offering in our HIIT classes to encompass all energy systems.

By utilising short, medium, and long duration work periods, our members are able to build capacity and increase performance across all time domains.

Our HIIT classes are designed around the use of monostructural cardio equipment, ie Rowers, Bikes, Skis, Running. These are ‘Low Skill’ movements that allow you to focus on working at prescribed intensities, in order to meet the desired stimulus.

In order to maximise fitness and work capacity, all energy systems must be trained regularly and at the desired intensity / HR Zone. Using a Function Well heart rate monitor and Team Beats heart rate tracking technology during the class allows you to see your heart rate and effort in real time. Long sustained efforts at sub-maximal heart rates are equally, if not more important than shorter efforts at max heart rate percentages when it comes to building work capacity.

The scalability of Function Well HIIT classes allows gym goers from both ends of the fitness spectrum to benefit from this simple and very effective form of training. There is no experience required for you to jump into one of our science-based HIIT classes at Function Well!
