Win the Morning, Win the Day
| Movement

Most of us have heard of the powers of habit and starting your day in a positive performance-orientated way. Morning rituals have been helping set my day up for success for a long time now and have become particularly important now more than ever to help deal with the stress of the current situation.
Coach Eamon’s Morning Routine
For me, starting my day a certain way allows me to establish what really needs to be done for that particular day and it gives me a sense of normality and routine that I so badly need.
My recommendations for creating a great morning routine
- Keep the rituals simple and repeatable
- Pick one movement-related ritual eg. 5 minutes of flow and 1 mindset related ritual eg. 5 minutes of breathwork or meditation
- When you complete them each day, take a moment to be proud of your effort and then carry that positive energy into the rest of the day.
Create a Schedule
For similar reasons as mentioned above create a daily schedule and stick to it! This is where you allocate time for responding to emails, zoom calling colleagues, sitting down to eat, doing a training session and everything in between. By having a schedule you take away the guesswork and thus removing the added stress out of the day and you guarantee that your non-negotiable tasks get completed. This is also when you allocate a knock off time so that you aren’t caught in the trap of working non-stop.
Move Every Day
Obviously most of us are now in a situation where it is hard to put as much intensity into our training as normal. Due to not having as much equipment available, not having a space to train at home or perhaps if you are someone that normally trains with your friends and you are just really struggling with motivation. My advice is don’t be too hard on yourself, understand that now is not the time to be smashing PB’s (although if you are, great work) but to be consistently moving and using your body the way it is meant to be used. Every day, move your body continuously for 30-60 minutes. Whether that be using Function Well on Demand, going for a walk, doing your program from your coach or doing some work around the house. If this is something you are struggling with right now, please feel free to reach out.
Connect with Your Loved Ones
Take some time each day to connect with someone close to you. Using all the technology we have available to ensure that you are getting some contact with the people who mean the most to you. Staying connected, especially if you are a social person is vital right now even if it isn’t face to face.
Get your daily dose of Vitamin D
My last tip for staying healthy is to get outside and get some sun exposure each day. I normally aim for at least 30 minutes each day, for me at the moment is while I am doing face to face sessions in the park. If you want to try to kill a few birds with one stone why not incorporated some sun into your morning rituals or sit outside to have your breakfast. Just a small amount of sun exposure each day can help to improve immunity, decrease stress, improve sleep and our body’s Circadian Rhythm, all things that we can benefit from right now. Plus it just makes you feel good!
