What is an Infrared Sauna?

Infrared saunas use infrared heat to warm your body directly rather than the air around you, delivering a deep heat to muscles and joints while operating at lower temperatures than traditional saunas. The lower humidity creates a drier, more comfortable environment.

What are the benefits?

Through heat and light, it can detoxify, promote relaxation, relieve muscle soreness and increase oxygen and blood circulation.

Recover faster

The infrared heat stimulates vasodilation of peripheral blood vessels, which brings oxygen to joints. This can increase the healing process of sprains and strains, relieving pain, and reducing the overall time it takes to recover from an injury or intense workout.

Improve Cardiovascular health

By gently elevating your heart rate and improving blood flow, infrared sauna sessions may help support cardiovascular health and overall wellbeing.

Burn calories

The body temperature that the infrared sauna creates can help to raise your metabolism. How? The heat causes your heart to beat faster, which results in burning more calories—up to 600 calories per sauna.

How to use

Drink plenty of water

Make sure you’re hydrated before going in. Try and drink 1L of water before your session, and another 1L during or soon after.

Keep an eye on the time

We recommend infrared sauna sessions should last around 30-45 minutes. Keep an eye on the timer, you don’t want to stay in there too long and risk dehydration.

What to wear

You can wear your gym clothes or swim gear if you are doing hot and cold therapy. Just make sure to always sit on a towel.

How often should you use an infrared sauna?

We recommend a 30-45 minute sauna session, at least once a week to de-stress, rehabilitate or to encourage weight loss. Start reaping the benefits of our Brisbane infrared sauna and complement your existing health routine at Function Well.
