As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve, we will keep you informed with the decisions we make based on the Australian and Queensland Governments advice. It is — as it has always been — our mission to further your health; physically, mentally and socially.

We believe Function Well is an important sanctuary for wellness and in particular stress relief during these trying times, we know our Holistic Philosophy can combat sickness and optimise health, but we understand you may be wondering if it is safe to head to the gym?

With the information available at this point in time, the following resources along with our evolving, stringent sanitary procedures will help you make an informed decision and provide some comfort that attending the gym seems to be ok. In the event this changes one thing you can count on is as a team we stand together committed to help you stay fit and well through this challenging time, below you will see our plan that will roll out over the next few days for those that wish to continue to attend the gym and for those that want to train at home or in off-peak times.

Function Well was founded and built on the passion and purpose to truly help people Function Well, this will never waiver no matter what the circumstances are.

Never has it been more important for us as a team to help you our valued members take care of your bodies. I truly believe exercise is the greatest drug in the world and is the gateway to living your best life. During this time of uncertainty social support is of utmost importance, our community is the fabric of what makes Function Well special. We will find solutions to support one another and maintain a connection, below is a starting point.

DAILY AT HOME + OFF-PEAK WORKOUTS

We will be providing the daily Function Well class on our @functionwell Instagram page for members to complete at home or on your own anytime in the gym throughout the day, for those that would rather attend in less busy periods.

We will also be releasing daily at-home workouts shared from our CrossFit box, these workouts will be suitable for all levels, require no equipment and be sure to keep you fit anytime, anywhere in the world.

We will be adding a library of At Home workouts to the program library of the Function Well App.

I encourage you to connect with each other on our social media and spread the power of fitness by sharing our daily workouts and wellness tips to loved ones to reduce stress, improve health and release some feel-good hormones.

ADDITIONAL CLASSES

We have made the decision rather than to cancel classes we will be putting more classes on. With more members having the flexibility to attend during the day we will be adding additional lunchtime classes along with potentially more 9:30 am classes.

This will help spread the number of members in the gym at any one time and we believe providing an outlet for members to feel good is vital.

STAYING SAFE AT THE GYM DURING THE CORONA VIRUS

When it comes to the gym, there’s some good news: “We know that the coronavirus is not found in sweat,” says Amesh Adalja, M.D., an infectious disease physician, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security, and spokesperson for the Infectious Diseases Society of America. For this reason, there would seem to be no increased risk to continue using the Steam, Sauna and Ice Bath to boost your immunity and overall health. Keep a social distance of at least 1.5m at all times.
